Alderman Callan Welcomes Intended Return of Pipe Band & Drum Majors Championship to Portrush
Oct 15, 2024The Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association is set to make a highly anticipated return to Portrush, bringing back one of the area's most celebrated events.
The move comes after a period of absence that left local traders and residents missing what had long been a highlight of the town's calendar.
Alderman Aaron Callan welcomed the correspondence from the Association at this evening's Leisure & Development Committee, noting its positive impact on the local community.
Alderman Stewart expressed his support, highlighting the event's economic benefits.
Discussions are now underway to ensure the event's return next year and explore longer-term partnerships.
Last week, we revealed that the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association Northern Ireland Branch (RSPBANI) confirmed to the council its intention to return the Pipe Band and Drum Majors Championship to Portrush in 2025.
After a recent site visit to the popular seaside town, the association indicated that the West Strand in Portrush is intended as the ideal location for the event.
The intended date is Saturday, 2nd August 2025. The hope is that this could become an annual fixture on the first Saturday of August in subsequent years.
