Angela Rippon Says "Let's Dance" as Portrush Embraces A Weekend Of Coastal Rhythm And Dance
Feb 08, 2025
Portrush is set to transform into a vibrant hub of movement and creativity this March as it proudly hosts events for Angela Rippon’s nationwide “Let’s Dance” campaign.
The weekend-long celebration promises an inclusive and exhilarating mix of dance, film, and community spirit for people of all ages and abilities.
A Weekend of Dance and Cinema
The festivities kick off on Saturday, 1 March 2025, at the Portrush Playhouse, where dance-themed film screenings will delight audiences. Moviegoers can look forward to iconic titles such as Dirty Dancing, Billy Elliot, Ballerina, Happy Feet, Hairspray, and Footloose—films that capture the passion and joy of dance.
Beyond the silver screen, Portrush will buzz with dance sessions throughout Saturday and Sunday. Whether your style is the energetic flair of Zumba, the smooth rhythms of jazz, the lively steps of swing, or the classic charm of a traditional tea dance, there will be something for everyone. While the venues are still being finalised, organisers promise a dynamic schedule to get the town moving.
Community-Driven Celebration
The local programme is being coordinated by Let's Dance ambassador Victoria Lagan, alongside Portmagics’ Alan Simpson, ensuring the event remains deeply rooted in the community’s vibrant spirit. “We’re delighted to bring such a dynamic and inclusive programme to Portrush. Working with Alan Simpson, we aim to create a celebration that showcases incredible talent and brings our community together through the joy of dance,” said Victoria Lagan.
The Grand Finale: An 8-Hour Dance Extravaganza
The weekend highlight is Sunday, 2 March 2025, when West Strand will be transformed into an 8-hour dance extravaganza. The Victoria Lagan Dance and Drama Group will lead the charge, with 17 dance studios from across Northern Ireland joining in to create a spectacular showcase of talent and unity. This continuous celebration promises to be a powerful demonstration of how dance can bring people together.
A Nationwide Movement
Angela Rippon’s “Let’s Dance” campaign unites communities across the UK—from ballet schools in London and salsa clubs in small towns to cultural hubs like the Eden Project in Cornwall and the Wintergarden in Blackpool. This spirited initiative calls for everyone to hit the dance floor, embrace movement, and experience the joy that dance brings.
As final details continue to be refined, excitement is building in Portrush for what is set to be an unforgettable celebration. Whether you’re a seasoned dancer or simply looking for a fun way to spend the weekend, join us in Portrush this March and be part of a nationwide movement that genuinely puts the ‘move’ in movement.
Further details and venues will be announced in the coming days.
