Ballycastle running duo get set for London Marathon in aid of Childrens Cancer
Mar 07, 2024Paul Quinn and Mark Gardiner from Ballycastle Running Club are gearing up for the London Marathon this April. They aim to complete the demanding 26.2-mile journey to benefit Children with Cancer UK.
Mark Gardiner reflects on his journey, "Beginning as a casual runner over a year ago and joining the Ballycastle Running Club, I've seen my abilities grow exponentially. This year has been filled with forming new friendships, participating in various running events, including park runs, half marathons, and fun runs, and even setting a personal record of 18.32 in a recent 5k. Paul and I decided to embrace the challenge of the London Marathon, knowing well the dedication it demands. However, the cause, supporting Children with Cancer, makes every step worth it. Our training is on track, and we're excited for the challenge ahead."
Paul Quinn adds, "We aim to raise £3,000 for this incredible charity, and we're grateful for every contribution."
In the UK, approximately 4,200 children and young people are diagnosed with cancer annually, translating to about ten diagnoses each day. Since 1988, Children with Cancer UK has been dedicated to funding research and supporting affected children and their families.
To support their cause, Paul and Mark are hosting a fundraising coffee morning on Saturday, April 6th, from 9 am to 12 pm at Ramoan Parish Centre, Ballycastle. The event promises engaging conversations, tea, coffee, cakes, and treats. All are encouraged to attend.
For those who wish to contribute but cannot attend, donations can be made through their designated webpage. Click here to donate.
