Bushmills Outbuilding Set for Holiday Let Transformation

A planning application has been submitted for Bushmills to convert an ageing outbuilding into short-term holiday accommodation.

The proposal, lodged by Michael Gregg, aims to repurpose a two-storey stone structure—located just off Main Street in the centre of the village—while retaining its historical character - 72-74 Main Street, Bushmills.

The design, which also involves parts of adjacent single-storey structures, seeks to preserve much of the building’s original fabric. A detailed access statement explains that the site, positioned behind a public bar and residential mid-terrace, forms part of Bushmills’ celebrated architectural heritage. The area is noted for its strong tourism appeal and forms an integral component of the local conservation area.

The conversion is seen as a means to safeguard a deteriorating heritage asset while bolstering the local tourism sector. Surrounded by a decorative gravel yard, extensive gardens, and a mix of residential and commercial properties, the outbuilding is largely concealed from public view, minimising any adverse impact on the village’s streetscape.
