Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council To Consider Freedom of the Borough for Health & Care Workers

local news Oct 16, 2023

In a move that demonstrates profound gratitude and recognition for the unwavering dedication of health & care workers, a special meeting will take place at Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council at a special meeting this week.

The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday evening to consider a Notice of Motion proposed by Alderman McAuley and seconded by Councillor Anderson.

The Notice of Motion reads: "That this Council award the Freedom of the Borough to health and care workers who are providing selfless, dedicated and high-quality lifesaving care to patients and family members in NHS facilities, community settings and households across Causeway Coast and Glens Borough during unprecedented times under the deadly threat of Covid-19."

The proposal to award the Freedom of the Borough to healthcare workers is a heartfelt recognition of their tireless efforts and unwavering commitment throughout the challenging and demanding phases of the COVID-19 pandemic. These healthcare professionals have not only been on the frontlines but have also acted as beacons of hope and resilience in the face of adversity.

As the deadly threat of COVID-19 continues to cast a shadow over communities worldwide, healthcare workers have stood as pillars of strength, ensuring that patients receive the care they need while putting their own health at risk. They have worked tirelessly in NHS facilities, communities, and even within households to provide critical care and support during these trying times.

The Freedom of the Borough is a prestigious honour that is rarely bestowed, symbolising the highest form of recognition and appreciation that a council can bestow upon individuals or groups.

If this motion is passed during the special meeting, it will not only celebrate the bravery and selflessness of healthcare workers but also serve as a lasting testament to their extraordinary contributions during these unprecedented times.
