Causeway Coast And Glens Set To Host Armed Forces Day Event In 2026

Oct 18, 2024

Causeway Coast and Glens is set to host Armed Forces Day in 2026, following the council’s successful bid to bring the event to the Borough.

The news was revealed in a committee report, published this week.

DUP Councillor Tanya Stirling, who now serves as Deputy Mayor, proposed hosting the event last year.

The motion read "I call upon this Council to submit an application to host Armed Forces Day 2026. This significant event is a great opportunity to show our support and give thanks to our military personnel and families both past and present including our veterans and cadets. This event will attract thousands of visitors to our Beautiful Borough, supporting our local traders and tourism providers.’

On the announcement, Deputy Mayor Tanya Stirling said: "We are delighted with this news. Armed Forces Day is our chance to show our support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community."

A report to be delivered to the council’s Coronation Sub-Committee at Cloonavin states: “It has been agreed that Armed Forces Day 2026 will be hosted by Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council.”

Future updates to the subcommittee will address ongoing discussions with the Chief Executive of the Reserve Forces and Cadets Association for Northern Ireland.
