Coleraine FC Submits £10m Funding Bid for Showgrounds Redevelopment
Mar 19, 2025
Coleraine FC has confirmed its application for £10 million in funding from the Northern Ireland Football Fund to support the redevelopment of the South Stand at The Showgrounds, transforming the venue into the North West Regional Stadium.
The club has warned that without significant investment, its long-term future could be at risk, as the existing Jack Doherty Stand nears the end of its lifespan. Officials say that without redevelopment, Coleraine FC may be left without a home ground within the next five to ten years.
The proposed project, which has secured match funding, is described as "shovel-ready," meaning work could begin swiftly if financial backing is secured. Club officials believe the redevelopment will not only safeguard Coleraine FC’s future but also deliver broader economic and social benefits to the North Coast region.
Henry Ross, Executive Chairman and majority shareholder, said the new stand would play a central role in youth development. “The undercroft of the new South Stand will be dedicated to young player development, reinforcing our commitment to nurturing local talent,” he said. “This aligns with our investment in the community pitch, which is nearing completion.”
The club also hopes the revamped stadium will strengthen the North Coast’s status as a venue for women’s and youth football internationals, while also playing a key role in the return of the Super Cup NI as a major global youth tournament.
Coleraine FC says the redevelopment will ensure the club remains sustainable while creating a high-quality facility for future generations of players and supporters.
