Coleraine Welcomes Misfit Hobbies: New Inclusive Tabletop Hobby Shop

local news Oct 19, 2023

Debuting on the evening of Friday, November 10th, at 7pm, a unique pop-up venture catering to tabletop hobby enthusiasts is set to infuse new energy into Coleraine's social scene.

Misfit Hobbies, the brainchild of Samuel Steele, springs from his deep-rooted passion for miniature games, board games, and tabletop RPGs. "These games have not only been instrumental in expanding my social circle and forging lasting friendships but have also been a fantastic avenue for skill acquisition. My vision is to forge a sanctuary for those who, like myself, sometimes feel out of place, offering them a hub to connect with others and explore enthralling hobbies," Samuel explains.

Positioning itself as the epicenter for fans of miniature games such as Warhammer and RPGs like Dungeons & Dragons, which have garnered a surge in followers recently, the store is poised to be a bustling nucleus of gaming.

Nestled in Ostix House on Hillmans Way in Coleraine, Misfit Hobbies distinguishes itself with customer-friendly operating hours. "Having spent my years growing up here, I understand the void when it comes to evening hangout spots for friends and family. This store is my initiative to fill that gap. Although we won't operate daily, we pledge to remain open until 10pm on active business days, inviting folks to drop in, engage in a game or two, and strengthen their bonds," Samuel affirms.

Initiating operations with Friday evening slots and full-day availability on Saturdays, Misfit Hobbies is receptive to expanding its hours, contingent on public interest. "The pop-up model is a cautious, albeit hopeful, first step. Its success hinges on community response, but I perceive a void that Misfit Hobbies can fill. Our weekend schedules running through till Christmas are designed to demonstrate our value proposition to Coleraine, while concurrently emphasizing the need for community backing to transition beyond the initial phase," Samuel elucidates.

From its inception, Misfit Hobbies plans to host an array of workshops and classes, with a strong emphasis on inclusiveness. They're extending an open invitation to children aged 10-13 to participate in classes at no charge, provided they're under parental or guardian supervision.

For the time being, the forefront mission of Misfit Hobbies pivots on exemplary customer service and introducing locals to the captivating realm of tabletop pastimes.

Although its inception is as a temporary pop-up, the aspiration is to cement its place as a community staple, contingent on local support.

Therefore, should you find yourself near Hillmans Way on November 10th, don't miss your chance to witness the enchantment firsthand. To keep abreast of their latest happenings, events, and classes, follow their journey on Facebook at: https://www.facebook.com/misfithobbiescoleraine.
