Tourism Events Programme

Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council has announced plans for its 2025-26 tourism events programme, with a proposed budget of £528,499. The events aim to boost local tourism and community engagement, while supporting the borough’s economy.

The programme, which was discussed at the Leisure and Development Committee meeting this evening, includes a mix of annual favourites and new enhancements. Key highlights include:

  • The Ballymoney Spring Fair (April): Returning with family-friendly activities, live music, and artisan markets.
  • NW200 Race Week Festival (May): Building on its success, organisers plan additional activities alongside the international motorcycle races.
  • Rathlin Sound Festival (May): A celebration of island heritage, food, and cultural connections.
  • Summer Fireworks and Entertainment in Portstewart and Portrush.
  • The Ould Lammas Fair (August): Ireland’s oldest fair will continue its four-day showcase with markets, music, and heritage displays.
  • Bushmills Salmon and Whiskey Festival (October): A flagship food and drink event promoting local produce and culinary experiences.
  • Halloween Events across four towns, including fireworks and spooky family entertainment.
  • Christmas Light Switch-On Events in key town centres, drawing thousands to celebrate the festive season.

The Council will also play a supporting role for The 153rd Open Golf Championship in Portrush (July 2025), a major international event expected to draw global attention.

Budget increases account for inflation and rising operational costs, including traffic management, medical services, and event enhancements. The Council has highlighted the programme’s importance in attracting visitors, supporting businesses, and fostering community pride across the borough.

Approval of the proposed budget remains subject to the 2025 rates-setting process.
