Freedom Of The Borough Proposed for Olympic Gold Champion Hannah Scott
Aug 28, 2024Olympic gold medalist Hannah Scott may receive one of the highest honours in the Borough as Causeway Coast & Glens Council considers motion(s) to grant her the Freedom of the Borough.
Scott, who claimed victory in the women’s quadruple sculls at the Paris Olympics last month, won the race in a dramatic photo finish. She competed alongside her Team GB crew members Georgina Brayshaw, Lola Anderson, and Lauren Henry.
The motion to bestow this prestigious accolade on Scott has been proposed by Alderman Boyle and seconded by Councillor Mairs. A second Notice of Motion has been submitted by Councillor Stirling, with the support of Alderman Callan, reflecting the Borough's deep admiration for Scott’s outstanding achievement.
Furthermore, Councillor Kyle, seconded by Councillor Jonathan McAuley, and Councillor Stirling, seconded by Councillor Anderson, have proposed holding a special reception to celebrate Scott’s success.
Earlier this month, Coleraine BID and Bann Rowing Club, with support from Causeway Coast & Glens Borough Council, organised a homecoming event in Coleraine, which saw a large turnout of locals eager to welcome their sporting hero back.
The Council is expected to discuss these motions in the coming weeks, with solid support anticipated across the board.
Should the motions be approved, Scott will join a select group of individuals awarded the Freedom of the Borough, solidifying her place as a local legend and a source of immense pride for the community.
