The Dunluce Centre in Portrush is poised for a significant transformation, as plans progress to revitalise the site more than a decade after its closure.

A full planning application has now been lodged with Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, following a proposal of application notice earlier this year. The centre, once one of the region's premier attractions, closed its doors in 2013 due to a decline in visitor numbers.

Earlier this year, the property was acquired by County Donegal businessman Colm O'Donnell for a reported £1.25m. Now, detailed proposals are underway to refurbish and expand the facility, with the aim of creating a new entertainment complex.

The ambitious redevelopment plans include the addition of amusements, soft play areas, mini golf, bowling, a virtual reality room, an arcade, and party rooms, as well as both indoor and outdoor rides. A food court is also part of the project.

Originally opened in 1993, the Dunluce Centre featured attractions such as the popular Turbo Tours simulator, its distinctive viewing tower, and a laser quest game, drawing visitors from near and far. The new plans, submitted by Westbury Developments Ltd—of which Mr. O'Donnell is a director—follow an initial community consultation held earlier this year.

If approved, the redevelopment could breathe new life into Portrush, boosting tourism and restoring the Dunluce Centre as a key family entertainment venue along the north coast.
