Georgia Taggart: Chasing Dreams from the North Coast to Q Radio Fame
Mar 27, 2025
Georgia Taggart, a proud North Coast girl, has just landed one of the most coveted radio roles in Northern Ireland—joining Q Radio, one of the region’s largest and most influential stations. This achievement is the result of years of hard work, determination, and an unwavering passion for the media industry that she’s had since childhood.
For Georgia, being in the media wasn’t just a career choice; it was a dream she’s nurtured since she could remember. “From an early age, I always knew what I wanted to do. Media has always been my passion. My dream job has always been to be a presenter,” she reflects on her early aspirations.
Her journey began at Dunluce Secondary School, where Georgia’s natural talent quickly became apparent. She pursued Media Studies and Music for GCSE, receiving an award for the highest GCSE music grade in her year. “I’ve always loved music, from singing to listening to it. I was brought up listening to all types of music,” she shares. But her love for performance truly took flight during her school years, where she starred in iconic productions such as The Sound of Music as Marta Von Trapp and Annie as Grace Farrell. “Some of my best memories are from those school shows. I’ve always loved singing and performing—it’s what brings me so much joy,” she recalls, her face lighting up at the thought.
Her love for performance and music grew even further during her time at Coleraine's Causeway School of Music, where she earned multiple singing grades. “Performing in school shows and having lessons at the Causeway School of Music really gave me the confidence I needed. Those years helped shape me into who I am today,” she says, speaking fondly of her experiences at both Dunluce and the music school.
As Georgia progressed in her studies, her ambition continued to grow. She enrolled in St. Joseph’s College, Coleraine for Sixth Form, where she continued her Media Studies education while also pursuing Theatre Studies at Loreto College, Coleraine. “I loved my time at both schools, as they allowed me to continue learning and developing my skills in creative industries. Both institutions really pushed me and helped me along the way,” she says.
Alongside her education, Georgia worked hard to build her profile. She modeled for Local Women Magazine and competed in the Miss Northern Ireland competition, which led to her signing with ACA Modeling Agency. “I’ve always sought out opportunities to get involved in the industry, whether it was modeling, pageants, or any other avenue. It helped me make connections and build my presence in the industry,” she explains.
Georgia’s career path took a significant turn when she attended Belfast Metropolitan College, earning a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Broadcast Journalism. Reflecting on her time there, she shares, “The college was incredible. The support I received from my tutors was unmatched, and it pushed me to give my best. I graduated with a Distinction, and I owe much of that success to the teachers and resources at the college.”
She then moved on to Teesside University, where she completed her degree in Multimedia Journalism. With her education in hand, Georgia took her first steps into the world of radio by joining community station Blast106. What followed was a whirlwind of growth, opportunity, and sheer determination. Starting with the 1-4 pm slot on Blast Hits, Georgia quickly became known for her enthusiasm, energy, and commitment. “I was always the first to volunteer for any opportunity, from radio presenting to outdoor presenting. Every chance I got, I seized it to learn and grow,” she says.
Her relentless drive earned her even more exposure, including interviews with some of Ireland’s biggest music figures, such as Belters Only and New Era. She also attended major festivals like Belsonic and Emerge, interviewing key figures like production manager Dino Cafolla and promoter Joe Dougan. “Interviewing is one of my favourite aspects of the job. I love connecting with people and hearing their stories about how they made it, and that’s why I’m glad to share my own story. I want young people to know that they can make it too, especially in Northern Ireland,” she shares passionately. “I’ll forever be grateful for Blast 106, I gained so much experience and was giving so many incredible opportunities and met so many amazing people along the way. Neil, Keith, and Chris from the station were a huge support to me during my time there, and I will always be thankful for them.”
After an exciting two years at Blast106, Georgia was offered the ultimate opportunity: a prime-time spot on one of Northern Ireland’s leading commercial stations, Q Radio. “After years of hard work, dedication, and pushing myself, it finally paid off. Joining Q Radio is a dream come true, and I’m beyond thrilled to be part of this amazing team,” she says, her voice brimming with excitement.
But Georgia hasn’t forgotten her roots, and she is adamant about paying forward the lessons she’s learned. “If there’s one piece of advice I would give to anyone starting out, it’s this: Never give up. Even when you feel like you’re not getting closer to your goal, keep going. Push through, because all that hard work and persistence will eventually pay off. There have been so many times I felt like it wasn’t going to pay off, but because I didn’t give up, look at where I am now. Also, get involved in as much as you can and gain as many experiences as possible because that’s where you’ll learn the most,” she advises.
Now, Georgia is part of Q Radio’s nightly lineup, hosting a show from Sunday to Thursday, 10 pm to midnight. It’s a position she’s worked incredibly hard for, and she’s more than ready to inspire the next generation of media professionals along the way.
“Dream big, work hard, and never stop believing in yourself,” she says with a smile. “It’s been an incredible journey, and I’m so grateful for every experience and thankful to everyone who’s helped me along the way. That’s what got me here.”
For Georgia, this is just the beginning. “I’m so excited for what the future holds,” she says. “Every day I get to do what I love, and that’s the best feeling in the world. I’m grateful for every opportunity and can’t wait to see where this journey takes me next.”
Tune in to Q Radio to catch Georgia’s infectious energy and see firsthand why she’s one of Northern Ireland’s brightest new radio stars.
