Grand Opening: Lidl Coleraine Sets A New Standard

Lidl Northern Ireland is gearing up to celebrate a major milestone by opening its newest and biggest-ever store at Riverside Retail Park in Coleraine on Thursday, 27 February 2025.

The move marks an exciting upgrade as the retailer shifts from its longtime location—trading from the complex since 2005—to a larger, dynamic unit in the heart of the bustling retail park.

Adding to the excitement, Coleraine local and former professional international Irish Rugby star Andrew Trimble will cut the ribbon at the grand opening, warmly welcoming new and loyal customers ready to explore every corner of Lidl’s latest and largest store in Northern Ireland.

Shoppers can look forward to a fun-filled day featuring supplier sampling, family-friendly entertainment, and unbeatable opening day offers. Plus, the first ten customers in line will receive a gift card to kickstart their shopping experience!

Covering an impressive 2,514 square metres, the new store is the largest in Northern Ireland and boasts the biggest solar power system in Lidl’s network. With an EPC A Energy Rating—the highest possible—this state-of-the-art building underlines Lidl’s commitment to reducing energy consumption and lowering its carbon footprint.

The £9m investment, designed to meet growing customer demand, has already created 8 new jobs, bringing the total team at the Coleraine store to 30. Additionally, over 250 jobs were generated during the planning and construction process. Enhanced parking for 132 vehicles and two electric vehicle charging points further showcase Lidl Northern Ireland’s dedication to sustainability and delivering an outstanding customer shopping experience.

This latest store in Coleraine joins recent openings in Strabane, Ballymoney, and Limavady as part of Lidl Northern Ireland’s exciting expansion in the northwest. Commenting on the retailer’s first store opening of 2025, Ivan Ryan, Regional Managing Director for Lidl Northern Ireland said:

Last year, Lidl Northern Ireland proudly announced a record £360m investment in the local economy, supporting almost 6,900 jobs, including 1,300 direct roles. With an additional £150 million pledged for new store expansions, Lidl is all set to grow its network to 50 stores by the end of the decade.
