Michael J. Gormley, who began his career in funeral directing alongside his father, Joseph, in November 1976, has upheld the family tradition initiated by his ancestors. Demonstrating prodigious talent and dedication, Michael became the youngest embalmer in the UK at the age of 18, after qualifying from the Doggart (Newtownards) School of Embalming under the British Institute of Embalmers (BIE) in 1985.

In a significant expansion, Michael, alongside his son Nicholas, took over the premises at 24 Cloyfin Rd—formerly known as the Q Radio station—in June 2022. They embarked on a comprehensive renovation project, culminating in the grand opening of the updated facility in June 2023.

Nicholas stands out as one of only two funeral directors in Northern Ireland to achieve a prestigious level 4 qualification, marking him as a highly qualified Funeral Director & Embalmer in the UK. This achievement complements his diploma in embalming, showcasing his comprehensive skill set in the profession.

Michael has continued to lead the business since his father's passing in May 2015, maintaining the high standards and compassionate service that J.A. Gormley Funeral Directors is known for. The company is a proud member of several professional organizations, including the SAIF, BIE, IAFD, NAFD, and PEAI, underscoring its commitment to excellence in funeral services.

Nicholas, furthering his expertise, obtained his diploma from the British Institute of Embalmers in 2017. His dedication to his craft took him to St. Etienne, France, in June 2018, where he completed a specialized course in Facial Restoration & Reconstruction. Moreover, Nicholas has enhanced his skills with a Post Graduate Hairdressing Course in March 2023.

Achieving the Level 4 NAFD Higher Funeral Directing Diploma, Nicholas has set a high standard within the UK funeral industry.
