Killowen Primary School in Coleraine is set to undergo a significant change as the Board of Governors has submitted a proposal to the Education Authority to transform the school to Controlled Integrated status. If approved, the change would take effect from 1 September 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter.
The proposal, submitted under Article 92 of the Education Reform (Northern Ireland) Order 1989, aims to integrate the school, reflecting a commitment to inclusivity and shared education. Controlled Integrated schools in Northern Ireland aim to offer a welcoming environment to children from diverse community backgrounds, promoting reconciliation and mutual understanding.
Members of the public can review the full proposal and the accompanying Case for Change at the Education Authority’s office on Lough Road, Antrim, or online at the Education Authority’s website.
Those wishing to express support or lodge objections can do so within two months of the notice's publication. Submissions can be sent to the Area Planning Policy Team at the Department of Education, Rathgael House, Bangor, or via email to [email protected].
The Department of Education and the Education Authority have stated that they operate under a regime of openness, and any letters of support or objection may be published online, subject to appropriate redactions.
