hospitality visit causeway coast and glens Jul 16, 2024

Ahoy, foodies and thrill-seekers! Ballycastle is about to become the hottest destination this weekend, not just because of the Red Bull Cliff Diving event.

We've got news that will make your taste buds do a somersault – Morton's, our beloved local fish and chip shop on Bayview Road, has been crowned one of the UK's best by the Sunday Times!

Clearly, there’s more to a fish supper than just cod and chips, and the Sunday Times has selected Morton's as one of the top places to tuck in within their latest article.

Both The Times and The Sunday Times have landed some of the industry's top awards for investigations, foreign reporting, magazine features and interviews. The Sunday Times won Sunday Newspaper of the Year at the Press Awards 2023 and The Times won Newspaper of the Year at the London Press Club Awards 2023.

As Ballycastle hosts some of the world’s best cliff divers this weekend, Morton's is poised to be the culinary highlight for many visitors.

Whether you're in town for the Red Bull Cliff Diving thrills or simply looking to sample some of the finest fish and chips the UK offers, Morton's on Bayview Road is an unmissable destination.

Morton's came in at spot 14 on the list. The Sunday Times praised it, saying, "A chippy owned by a fisherman sounds like an excellent concept, and it has worked a treat for the little shed by the Marconi memorial on Ballycastle’s harbour. John and Kevin Morton inherited the fishing business established by their grandfather more than a century ago, bringing North Atlantic catches into the harbour and selling them on. But when proliferating supermarkets threatened to destroy the business, they diversified, opening a quayside fishmonger and a chippy that rivals the Giant’s Causeway, the Bushmills distillery, and the Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge as an Antrim coast wonder. It’s takeaway-only, but wander around the back for picnic tables on the harbour arm. Fish supper from £10.40."
