Ballycastle is set to take a significant leap forward as plans for new leisure facilities at Quay Road sports grounds are expected to gain council approval next week.

The ambitious project promises to breathe new life into the area, offering a range of amenities designed to serve the entire community.

The proposed development includes a cutting-edge leisure centre featuring a swimming pool, a state-of-the-art gym, and versatile studios for fitness classes. Beyond the indoor facilities, the plan also introduces an accessible play park and a thrilling BMX pump track. To accommodate the influx of visitors, the project will revamp site access, expand parking for cars and coaches, and introduce lush landscaping to enhance the area’s natural beauty.

The site, located between 13 and 39 Quay Road, has been earmarked for this transformation, and planning officials strongly recommend approval.

Sinn Féin Councillor Cara McShane, a passionate advocate for the project, expressed her excitement about the forthcoming decision. "This has been a long time coming," McShane remarked. "For years, the people of Ballycastle have been waiting for an indoor leisure facility that meets their needs. This project is the culmination of years of hard work and dedication, a legacy of the Moyle Council that we are finally bringing to life."

McShane emphasised the broader impact of the development, noting that it will benefit not just Ballycastle but the entire Borough. "These new facilities will be a game-changer for our community," she continued. "They will provide a space for everyone—young and old, families and individuals—to come together, stay active, and enjoy life. It’s about more than just buildings; it’s about investing in our town's future health and happiness."

The planning committee will meet next Wednesday.
