Olympians to be honoured with official event

An official event to celebrate Northern Ireland's outstanding success at the 2024 Olympics is due to be held later this year.

Competitors from the region achieved a record seven medals at the Paris Games, including four golds.

Although a date and venue for the celebration have yet to be confirmed, Communities Minister Gordon Lyons, who is responsible for sport in Northern Ireland, has assured that the public will be welcome to attend.

The event will also honour athletes from the Paralympic Games, which commence later this month, meaning the celebration is unlikely to take place before September.
