A planning application has been submitted to Causeway Coast & Glens Borough Council by the Education Authority proposing the development of a car park at DH Christie Memorial Primary School, 45 Ballycairn Road, Coleraine.
The application outlines plans for a 36-space parking area, including two disabled parking bays and a designated drop-off area, to serve the adjoining school better.
The proposal also includes the creation of a new access point alongside hard and soft landscaping enhancements.
Notably, the front boundary treatment along Ballycairn Road is set to retain the existing low wall, which will be augmented with a fence. This fence is an 'IBEX' type security structure, adhering to the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s (PSNI) recommendations for the Secured by Design initiative, which aims to reduce crime through thoughtful environmental design.
If approved, the new car park will significantly improve daily operations at DH Christie Memorial Primary School, contributing to a safer and more organised drop-off and pick-up experience for parents, pupils, and staff.
The project underscores the ongoing commitment to improving local infrastructure in line with community needs and safety standards.
The application will go before the Council's planning committee in the coming months.
