Progress on the Ballycastle Leisure Centre project has reached another significant milestone, with plans for signage now submitted to the planning portal.

The submission includes proposals for a range of signage installations: seven in total, comprising one illuminated wall-mounted building sign, two illuminated ground-mounted totem signs, three ground-mounted directional signs, and one sign for an assistance dogs' toilet facility.

Sinn Féin Councillor Cara McShane welcomed the development, stating that it represents another positive step forward for the project at Quay Road in Ballycastle.

However, she highlighted that there are issues regarding the design, content, and naming of the facility that she plans to address. Overall, she considers the planning application to be a positive advancement.

“This recent planning application for signage is another positive move in progressing the leisure centre project at the Quay Road in Ballycastle," said Councillor McShane. “It is expected that there will be a contractor on site in the next 2-3 months to build the indoor leisure facility, and the aim is still to have the project completed in 2026.”

Councillor McShane also highlighted broader investment in Ballycastle, noting the €5.2 million in Peace Plus funding secured for the Shared Campus project and recent Heritage Lottery Funding for the Museum on Castle Street.

“These are exciting times in Ballycastle,” she said. “It is very positive to now see the years of campaigning starting to bear fruit for various capital investment projects in the town.”
