Plans Submitted For Renovation Of Bushmills Distillery Courtyard
Dec 27, 2024Bushmills Distillery has lodged plans with Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council for a proposed revamp of its courtyard area, aiming to enhance the visitor experience and create new facilities.
The application outlines a reconfiguration of the existing courtyard to provide access to a new conference and tasting facility. According to the accompanying Design and Access Statement, the project will incorporate several features designed to complement the distillery's historic surroundings.
"The southern side of the courtyard will feature a wall constructed from whiskey barrels, with planters added along the southern boundary, and a silver birch tree will be planted," the statement explains. At the heart of the courtyard, a covered pergola with a pitched roof is planned, offering an inviting space for visitors.
The proposed development is described as "an attractive new meeting or breakout space," which will be used in tandem with the adjacent conference and tasting facility.
The design has been crafted to respect the character of the nearby listed buildings, with careful consideration given to materials and finishes. "The choice of colours, materials, and finishes directly responds to the surrounding historic context," the statement adds.
Bushmills Distillery, one of the oldest working distilleries in the world, continues to draw visitors from across the globe, and this latest development seeks to enhance its reputation as a key destination on the Causeway Coast.
