A planning application has been submitted to Causeway Coast & Glens Council proposing the redevelopment of the former Ballyhacket Primary School into a health and wellness centre.

The application, brought forward by Jora Properties, outlines plans to change the use of the site on Altikeeragh Road, Castlerock, to provide a range of health-focused facilities, along with complementary services and external works.

The council’s planning department will consider the proposal in the coming months. If approved, the redevelopment could breathe new life into the site, which has been vacant since its closure in 2021.

The former school faced a controversial closure after the then-Education Minister, Peter Weir, rejected a bid to convert it into an integrated school. Instead, the decision was made to shut the facility, ending its role as a key educational institution in the local community.
