Plans to turn former pub into HMO accommodation

business local news Nov 08, 2023

Plans have been submitted to Causeway Coast & Glens Borough Council for the change of use from a public bar and residential dwelling, the renowned Antrim Arms Pub to provide Housing in Multiple Occupancy (HMO) accommodation for staff.

The initiative is led by Woodland Kitchens, Northern Ireland's leading kitchen manufacturer. Located merely five miles from Kilrea, the firm is an economic powerhouse, employing over 150 staff. Their ongoing recruitment drive has recently welcomed 10 skilled workers from the Philippines, necessitating stable and comfortable housing.

The site's transformation is carefully crafted to enhance living conditions without disrupting the building's external charm. The existing structure, with a kitchen, multiple dining and living areas, and numerous bedrooms and bathrooms, will be reconfigured to include additional bedrooms, replacing the former public bar.

If approved, this project will not only provide upgraded, modern living quarters for Woodland Kitchens' international employees but will also rejuvenate a cherished local landmark into a hub of daily life for its workforce.
