Proposals Submitted for New Filling Station and Drive-Thru Coffee Shop in Ballymoney

Proposals have been submitted to Causeway Coast & Glens Borough Council for development at lands 49, 51-65 Castle Street, Ballymoney.

The applicant, LCC Group Ltd, has outlined plans for a new filling station, a drive-thru coffee shop, car wash, car parking, landscaping, and all associated site and access works.

The site, previously used for commercial purposes, has been vacant for a significant period. In 2020, it was granted extant planning approval for redevelopment into a petrol filling station with eight pumps and a 210-square-metre retail unit, including new access via Castle Street with a right-turn lane provision.

The new proposals build on this existing approval but with notable changes. The current development plan foresees the erection of an eight-bay unmanned petrol filling station, excluding the previously approved retail element and offices. Instead, the focus shifts to include a 65-square-metre drive-thru coffee unit alongside the filling station and associated car parking.

The design for the new access onto Castle Street remains consistent with the previous approval, ensuring seamless integration with the existing road infrastructure. The proposed filling station will feature 16 parking spaces, eight at the pumps and eight standard parking bays. The drive-thru coffee shop will have a queuing system to accommodate approximately 11 cars within the application site.

The proposal's emphasis on a drive-thru coffee shop reflects growing consumer demand for convenient, on-the-go services.

If approved, this development could revitalise the currently vacant site, contributing to the local economy by creating jobs and enhancing services for residents and visitors.

The application will go to the Council's planning committee in the coming months.
