Proposed Repair and Inspection Works at Hezlett House
Sep 30, 2023In a bid to address known issues and ensure the conservation of the historical Hezlett House, located on Sea Road on the outskirts of Castlerock, a comprehensive repair inspection is set to take place.
Plans submitted to Causeway Coast & Glens Council reveal that this effort will include the careful removal of various lined wall finishes from floor to ceiling level, removal of modern lined window heads, and the uplifting of timber floor boards. These areas will subsequently be restored in accordance with the findings of the inspection.
The detailed investigation aims to better inform on the current building condition and priority defects, allowing for appropriate and timely repair work. Main concerns include potential timber decay caused by concealed water ingress within the cruck frame and the existing electrical services within the property.
In a proactive measure to alleviate the issue of water ingress at low levels around the property, the installation of a French Drain is proposed around the external perimeter.
Given the varying external ground levels and the commitment to preserving the historic fabric of the building, this installation is deemed the most suitable option to reduce water ingress without any intrusive intervention on the building itself. This work will be undertaken by a contractor with significant experience and knowledge, ensuring the historic fabric and significance of the building remain a priority throughout the process.
