Ulster Bank has submitted plans to Causeway Coast & Glens Council for renovations at 30-32 Catherine Street, Limavady, a Grade B2 listed building. The proposals aim to make internal changes and enhance accessibility while preserving the site's historic character.

The building, constructed between 1900 and 1919 and listed in October 1977, is located on busy Catherine Street, a key route in Limavady’s town centre. Surrounded by a mix of traditional Victorian and modern commercial buildings, it is visually prominent and historically significant.

The planned internal alterations include replacing non-original counters, adding a mini consultation point, and upgrading furniture and finishes. Externally, a rear window will be transformed into a doorway, and a new disabled access ramp and dedicated parking spaces will be added.

A design statement accompanying the plans highlights that these upgrades will improve access to the building without affecting its original front entrance. Importantly, the proposal meets Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) standards, ensuring level access from the rear. The alterations are designed to enhance the customer experience while maintaining the building’s historical integrity, with no major demolitions planned.

The plans aim to balance modernisation with preservation, ensuring that the building continues to serve the public while safeguarding its architectural heritage.

The application will be considered later this year.
