Roughans Gelato Expands to Coleraine with New Store Opening
Jun 25, 2024Portstewart’s beloved Roughans Gelato is bringing its unique flavours to Coleraine with the opening of a new store on Kingsgate Street, set to welcome customers this Friday, June 28th.
Known across Northern Ireland for its freshly made gelato and innovative flavours such as fifteens, battenberg, and fig and mascarpone, Roughans Gelato is also unveiling a new range of artisan confectionery. This includes butter fudge and gourmet marshmallows infused with chocolate, caramel, and fresh fruit.
Owner Damian Roughan expressed his excitement about the new venture, stating, “We’re thrilled to open our new store in Coleraine. We will be crafting everything on-site in our Coleraine lab, focusing on our renowned gelato and our new handmade confectionery range, which is exclusive to our shops.”
Roughans Gelato has a rich history, established in 1953 by Damian's grandmother and later managed by his father, Vincent. The family legacy continues with Damian's daughter, Annie, who is deeply involved in creating and designing the gelato and confectionery. Currently based in London as a gelato chef, Annie has returned home for a few months to assist with the Coleraine launch and the upcoming relocation to Roughans’ original site in Portstewart later this year.
In addition to its signature gelato, the new Coleraine store will feature a unique range of local interest cards designed by Damian's nephew, Mark Seaton. Customers can also look forward to enjoying coffee, milkshakes, pick and mix, and chocolates.
