Royal Portrush Submits Plans for High-End Tourist Accommodation
Nov 14, 2024Plans have been formally submitted to Causeway Coast & Glens Borough Council to convert a two-storey dwelling at 111 Dunluce Road, Portrush, better known as The Rosses, into self-catering tourist accommodation. The application was received by planners on the 7th November 2024.
The proposal includes alterations to the existing building, on-site parking, associated works, and plans for two freestanding entrance signs with ground-lit external illumination.
The landmark property, perched adjacent to Royal Portrush Golf Club’s championship course and overlooking the world-renowned Royal Portrush golf links, was purchased by the club for an estimated £3 million last year. Occupying a prime 3.3-acre site off Dunluce Road, The Rosses adjoins the fourth fairway, placing it in the heart of one of Northern Ireland’s premier golfing destinations.
The property was formerly owned by members of the Henry family, who once ran Coleraine’s Farm Fed Chicken plant.
The planned transformation is anticipated to cater to the needs of discerning tourists and golfers visiting the North Coast.
Earlier this year, Royal Portrush opened bookings for The Rosses, with its luxury accommodations carrying a weekly price tag of £16,800. Despite the high cost, demand has already been evident; the property is reserved for two weeks in July 2025 to coincide with the Open Championship’s return to Royal Portrush.
The move underscores the growing demand for exclusive, high-quality accommodation in the area, further solidifying Portrush’s status as a must-visit destination for golf enthusiasts from around the world. The submission of these plans represents the latest in a series of developments aimed at enhancing the region’s appeal and meeting the needs of visitors seeking exceptional experiences in the shadow of one of the sport’s great courses.
