Royal Portrush To Commence Search for New General Manager Ahead of Open Championship?
Jun 14, 2024In a significant development at Royal Portrush, it has emerged that the club is on the lookout for a new general manager just over a year before The Open Championship returns to the renowned course.
Members have revealed that they were informed via email on Tuesday afternoon that John Lawler, a Dubliner, has been appointed as the general manager of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, famously known as the home of Wimbledon.
This appointment marks a significant career move for Mr. Lawler, who took over from Wilma Erskine at Royal Portrush. Lawler transitioned to the historic club from The Island Golf Club following the successful 2019 Open Championship held at the Dunluce Links.
Lawler, whose career in the golf industry began in 2002, has held esteemed positions at several notable clubs, including Carton House, Mount Wolseley, Rathfarnham Golf Club, and The Island Golf Club. His move from Dublin to Portrush in October 2019 underscored his commitment to the sport and his role at Royal Portrush.
Throughout his career, Lawler has been instrumental in organising major championships at his respective clubs, including The Amateur Championship and the Irish Open, showcasing his expertise and dedication to the sport.
As Royal Portrush prepares for another major tournament, the search for a new general manager will be a top priority to ensure the club's continued success and reputation.
