A new championship links golf course is being planned for a location in County Antrim.

The Galgorm Collection, the hospitality group behind the well-known luxury hotel and resort, is leading efforts for a major tourism development in Glenariffe, between Cushendall and Carnlough in the Glens of Antrim.

Negotiations are taking place with around 30 landowners, with the proposed course expected to cover between 200 and 300 acres. The site runs from the Glenariffe Oisín’s GAA club near Waterfoot Beach and extends into the nearby hills.

Links courses, typically located along sandy coastlines, provide a firmer playing surface.

The Galgorm Collection is reportedly aiming at the US tourism market, with the 2027 Ryder Cup in Adare Manor, County Limerick, seen as a potential launch opportunity.

Meanwhile, the group is close to finalising a deal to acquire Galgorm Castle Golf Club, near its flagship resort in Ballymena.
