The Copper Pig Committed To Quality and Affordability

A popular Coleraine butchers on Railway Road has undergone a stunning transformation.

Copper Pig, run by Declan and Sarah McClarey, is a firm favourite within the community and it has been given an impressive facelift.

The shop closed at the end of November 2022, and this thriving enterprise reopened in February 2023 much to the delight of its loyal customers.

The business first began in a small butcher's shop in Portrush after owner Declan, who has over 20 years experience in the butchery business, decided the time was right to become his own boss.

He had previously worked as a butcher at Norman Hunters in Limavady becoming manager and winning awards for the shop. He also spent time in London working at the prestigious Lidgates in Holland Park.

After the lease expired, Declan and his team knew it was time for a fresh start and so The Copper Pig was born, with a new name, a new shop in Railway Road, Coleraine and a fresh outlook on butchering.

Sarah explained why the decision was taken to renovate The Copper Pig and the end of 2022.

“Back in November there was a flood in the back of the shop and with the water damage we needed to do some work.

“We decided to take this opportunity to give the shop a facelift. It was something we had wanted to do ever since we opened the shop and we are delighted with the outcome. We love the new look and feel of the shop and our customers seem very happy we are back again as are we.”

Despite the new look, The Copper Pig still holds true to the values that built its success: quality produce at affordable prices, something that is very important to the McClareys.

“We will always strive to offer great quality at great prices,” explained Sarah. “We have a big family with seven children so we know what it is like to watch the pennies and we always want to get our customers the best value we can because great food for your family doesn’t have to cost the earth.

“Declan and Alan are fantastic butchers, they have a vast knowledge of great meat and this just shows in the products we deliver and the knowledge and advice they offer the customer. It may be a new look shop, but it retains the old values that we built our business on”.
