‘The Residences Portrush’: Planning Application Lodged
Feb 26, 2025
Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council has received a planning application for a proposal named “The Residences Portrush,” designed for those over 55.
The project is intended for the Dhu Varren Road site, previously occupied by the now-relocated Mill Strand Primary School (33 Dhu Varren, Portrush).
Developers say the new homes will reflect the traditional architectural forms of the area while adding modern comforts tailored to the needs of later living.
According to documents submitted by TODD Architects, the plan centres on 24 generously sized apartments—divided equally between two- and three-bedroom designs. Ground-floor units each include private garden plots, while upper floors offer roomy balconies and terraces.
What sets “The Residences, Portrush” apart, according to the Design & Access Statement, is its focus on the well-being of people aged 55 and above.
Drawing on the developer’s experience with similar projects, such as at Belfast’s Kings Hall, the Portrush site has been specifically laid out to foster sense of community.
Planning officials are currently considering the application.
