Tourism NI Unveils 'The Open Toolkit' Ahead of Historic Championship

Northern Ireland is gearing up to welcome the world’s golfing elite as Tourism NI, in partnership with Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, launches a comprehensive toolkit designed to help local businesses capitalise on The 153rd Open.

Scheduled for 13–20 July 2025 at Royal Portrush Golf Club, the championship is set to attract a global audience and deliver a substantial economic boost.

The toolkit offers practical advice for businesses to ensure they are “Open Ready” for the event. It details a range of strategies—from updating digital platforms and social media campaigns to collaborating with neighbouring enterprises—to enhance customer service and improve local visitor experiences.

With The Open expected to draw over 250,000 visitors from more than 150 countries, the document emphasises the importance of preparation, citing the impressive figures from the 2019 championship which generated a combined economic and media benefit exceeding £100 million.

Key recommendations include staying up-to-date with event details through official channels, tailoring services to meet the early starts and busy schedules of golf fans, and adopting sustainable practices that celebrate Northern Ireland’s unique natural heritage. Additionally, the toolkit provides ready-made marketing assets and promotional templates, ensuring that businesses can effectively communicate their involvement in the event.

By following these guidelines, local businesses hope to not only enhance the visitor experience during championship week but also to establish lasting growth in tourism well beyond the event.

Tourism NI’s initiative reflects a concerted effort to showcase the region’s renowned hospitality and to present Northern Ireland as a premier destination for both golf enthusiasts and international visitors.
