UK Frozen Food Leader Iceland Eyes A New Coleraine Warehouse Store, Subject To Approval

Iceland Foods Group, the UK’s leading frozen food retailer, has unveiled plans to expand its presence with the proposed opening of 'The Food Warehouse' outlet in Coleraine, subject to planning approval, set for 2026, we can exclusively reveal.

The Food Warehouse concept, introduced in 2014, transforms the conventional shopping experience by offering spacious, warehouse-style outlets. These stores—typically twice the size of a standard Iceland branch—feature wide aisles and an extensive range of products, including larger pack sizes designed to deliver enhanced value for money.

Iceland Foods Group remains at the forefront of retail innovation with over 950 stores across the UK and a multi-award-winning online shopping service.

The proposed Coleraine outlet is expected to generate between 15 and 20 new jobs.

Planning documents submitted last year reveal that the proposals involve varying a condition on Unit 2 at Riverside Retail Centre to permit occupation by The Food Warehouse—a site previously occupied by Argos.

On the planning front, there have been some notable developments.  Causeway Coast & Glens Council has received retail policy advice from Nexus as part of its ongoing review process to ensure the proposal aligns with local planning policies and community needs.   An updated consultation document was also uploaded to the planning portal last month.  

A spokesperson for Iceland commented, "We’re excited to announce plans for a new Coleraine Food Warehouse store in Northern Ireland, set to open in 2026 and bring a range of great value and quality products to the local community."

The company also confirmed that the existing Iceland store on Railway Road will remain open, continuing to serve customers with the same trusted service.
