Ulster University Coleraine Launches Innovative new Masters in Golf Management Ahead of The Open 2025 Championship

Ulster University is tee-ing up for the 153rd Open championship, one of golf’s four major global tournaments, as it returns to Royal Portrush in 2025.

In anticipation of this prestigious event, the university is proud to announce the launch of its new Masters in Golf Management at Coleraine. 

Excitement is soaring to an all-time high, with over one million ticket applications submitted in record time through the Ticket Ballot, marking the fastest sell-out in the tournament’s history. Fans worldwide have shown their overwhelming desire to experience and be part of The 153rd Open next July. 

The new Masters in Golf Management is designed to cater to the growing global demand for qualified professionals in the golf industry capable of managing golf facilities, events, and organisations at the highest level.  

Applications are now open, and the first cohort will begin their studies in 2025. Course Director, Peter Bolan highlights the course’s popularity already, “We’ve already had an application from a student in Houston, Texas, and several enquiries from Florida USA, in addition to other enquiries from the Netherlands and Spain.” 

Students will gain the knowledge and skills needed for careers in a field that is increasingly recognised as a significant economic driver and prospect-filled sector. 

Designed by the Department of Hospitality, Tourism, and Events Management at Ulster University which ranked 1st in the UK by The Guardian University Guide for 2025, the programme offers a cutting-edge curriculum accredited by the Institute of Hospitality, ensuring international recognition for graduates. This qualification opens doors to career opportunities at some of the world's top golfing resorts and organisations. 

Located on Northern Ireland's stunning North Coast, the Coleraine campus offers a ‘hole-in-one’ location for aspiring golf management professionals. The region is recognised for its natural beauty and home to some of the world's most prestigious golfing regions. On campus, students have access to the Centre for Golf Education and Research with state-of-the-art golf training facilities.  

Just a short distance away, some of the world’s most celebrated courses such as Open venue Royal Portrush Golf Club and Irish Open venue Portstewart Golf Club, serve as prime locations for hands-on learning through projects, site visits, workshops, and guest lectures from industry leaders.
