In a pivotal move for economic growth in the region, Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council have given the green light to plans for a cutting-edge factory at Wattstown Business Park in Coleraine. This development, spearheaded by Maine Surface Finishing, promises to be a game-changer, creating 150 new jobs and a hefty £10 million investment.

At a recent Planning Committee meeting on Wednesday, April 23, council members approved the comprehensive planning application.

The proposed facility encompasses the factory and associated offices, car parking provisions, landscaping, and crucial groundwork. Additionally, plans include the installation of a state-of-the-art foul wastewater treatment plant, highlighting a commitment to environmental stewardship.

A council officer said construction would involve the erection of a single factory and assembly building over two phases.

They added: “The building is comprised of two elements: the office element, which consists of three floors of accommodation and the manufacturing area, which is located on the ground floor only with a large internal void located above.

PUP councillor Russell Watton said it was a “big site and ideal for development”.

“It’s not near houses, and it’s not annoying anybody, but the main thing for me is that local men and women will get jobs there. It’s only five minutes from their houses, and the 330 parking spaces indicate there will be a lot of employment in it.”

This ambitious venture marks a significant milestone for Wattstown Business Park and the broader Borough, signalling a positive trajectory for job creation and economic prosperity.
