Whoosh's Thana Thammavongsa Launches New Asian Snack Pots at Selfridges Food Hall
Sep 12, 2023When culinary ambition meets an undying love for traditional recipes, magic happens.
Such is the story of Thana Thammavongsa, the dynamic owner of Whoosh Street Food Café in Coleraine.
This month, she celebrated an incredible milestone: the launch of her Thai and Vietnamese rice noodle Snack Pots at the esteemed Selfridges Food Hall in London.
Back in 2008, Thana founded Whoosh in Coleraine, giving locals a taste of authentic Asian street food.
More than a decade later, she embarked on a journey to innovate her offerings, creating Northern Ireland's first-ever Asian snack pots. Thana unveiled these delightful pots at the Taste Causeway Showcase last year, and there's been no looking back.
Speaking about the product, Thana said, "Our goal was to recreate the essence of our most cherished Thai and Vietnamese street food dishes, passed down through family recipes. Having our pots featured in a landmark like Selfridges is a dream come true."
Today's consumer, often on the move, is looking for quick yet flavourful food options. Thana's snack pots offer variants like Thai Red Curry, Tom Yum, and Vietnamese Rice Noodles. And the best part? More tantalizing flavours are set to launch next year!
Each pot comes packed with a unique spice mix and rice noodles. A splash of hot water, a few minutes of patience, and you have a snack perfect for any occasion.
Thana says, "Our pots are designed to complement leftovers, too. From proteins like chicken, prawns, or tofu to fresh veggies – you can add whatever you fancy."
Prioritising health and authenticity, Thana ensures these pots are gluten-free, vegetarian-friendly, and free from artificial ingredients. "We aimed to offer a clean, fresh taste using only natural ingredients. Consumers can even adjust the spice levels as per their preference," she explains.
With a mere 314 calories per serving, these snack pots are the perfect blend of health and flavour.
Sharon Scott from Taste Causeway, expressing her joy over Thana's accomplishments, said, "Thana's journey from hospitality to pioneering food products has been awe-inspiring. Her passion, vision, and relentless drive are truly commendable. We're thrilled to have been a part of her incredible journey, which, we believe, is just the beginning."
With her innovative fusion of Asian and European food cultures, Thana Thammavongsa and Whoosh are undeniably on an exciting trajectory.
The world should watch this culinary maestro – she's just getting started!
